• Decongestive therapy after cryolipolysis

  After a Cryolipolysis treatment, (connective tissue) massage / lymphatic drainage gives a better outcome of the treatment.
• Inflammation and hypoxia lead to fat growth

  The possible response pattern causing fat growth in paradoxical lipohypertrophy after cryolipolysis is similar to the pathophysiology of lipedema.

  Hypotheses paradoxical lipohypertrophy:

  • Hypertrophy (- ischaemia, - metabolic and hormonal changes)
  • Hypertrophy (receptor expression -> metabolism
  • Hyperplasia (ILGF-1 -> pre-adipocytes/stem cells; local or circulating)
• Cryolipolysis for lipedema

  Cryolipolysis for lipedema is not recommended:

  • No literature
  • Hypoxy
  • Fibrosis
  • Inflammation
  • Not all of the abnormal fatty tissue is treated
  • Chance of paradoxical lipo(deem) hypertrophy
• Decongestive therapy and lipedema

  Lymph drainage, connective tissue massage, pneumatic compression therapy and pressure garments (combined decongestive therapy) reduce pain, volume and probably the progression of lipedema. It promotes mobility and well-being.

  Effect combined decongestive therapy:

  Improving oxygenation

  Reduction of capillary fragility

  Drain lymph fluid with proteins and inflammatory substances
