I came to the Resculpt Clinic to treat my lipedema on legs and hips through liposuction. I have been fighting the excess fat on my legs for many years and was ashamed of it for many years. With Hajo Bruining, I felt I was in very good hands. He was very pleasant to deal with and professional. He explained it all very clearly before the procedures and made me feel safe and good.

With the diagnosis of "lipedema," it became clear to me that I have a disease that I can't do anything about myself but that surgically improves. Thanks to the successful surgeries I underwent at ReSculpt Clinic, for the first time in 10 years, I feel lighter, literally and figuratively, and in terms of appearance I have become who I really should have been.

Over the years I received comments from others about my legs and wore pants to avoid drawing attention to them. Trying on boots was impossible, when I had to give presentations or was at parties I tried to hide my legs, my legs felt heavy, tired and cramped on a daily basis and I regularly wondered why I kept gaining weight in one place despite my exercise and healthy eating. A pain-free existence, a huge improvement in my quality of life and a second chance to enjoy life - these are the gifts I received by undergoing these surgeries.

Lipedema arms experience

Marianne Walma has suffered from lipedema in the arms for many years.

I have had appalling pain in my upper arms for over 40 years and they were getting thicker and thicker over the years.
I did have been to VUMC for examination at the phlebology department twelve years ago because I had frequent wound erosions in both my legs. At phlebology they said I had lipedema but nothing could be done about it. They prescribed elastic stockings to prevent worse.

In oktober 2020 kwam ik voor de eerste keer bij een nieuwe huisarts en ik vroeg hem of hij iets wist tegen die vreselijke pijn in mijn armen. Ik heb al jaren verschillende vormen van reuma, dus ik dacht dat deze pijn ook met reuma te maken had. Maar deze huisarts zei: “ik zie het al, je hebt lipoedeem”.

Hij vertelde dat hij een dokter wist die hier misschien iets aan kon doen, drs. Hajo Bruining. Onlangs had hij een andere patiënt verwezen naar deze arts.

Op 4 november 2020 kwam ik voor een 1e consult bij Hajo Bruining. En ook Hajo stelde lipoedeem als diagnose. Hij zei dat kan ik verhelpen met liposuctie, maar niet bij jou, omdat je bloedverdunners slikt en hartfalen hebt. Ik voelde me erg teleurgesteld. Hij verwees mij door naar een fysiopraktijk in Hoofddorp met daaraan verbonden een oedeemtherapeut en diëtiste. Ik kwam bij Marion Groen terecht en zij gaf mij een press- en oedeemtherapie. Deze therapie werkte erg goed. Ik kreeg zelfs weer zichtbare schouders en de pijn werd dragelijker.

I told this above story to the cardiologist with whom I am under treatment and who, in consultation with a pulmonologist, had prescribed me a certain type of blood thinners. The cardiologist felt that a solution had to be found so that liposuction could be performed. The three doctors worked together to come up with the solution. A few days before the liposuction, the blood thinner pills were replaced by injections into the abdomen. Then came the next obstacle namely; in my status was my alleged allergy to lidocaine. During a telephone consultation between the family doctor and Dr. Hajo, it turned out that this entry in my status, was a mistake!

Liposuction lipedema arms

Op 10 maart 2021 werd de eerste liposuctie op mijn linker bovenarm uitgevoerd, gevolgd door een huidcorrectie. De behandeling duurde ongeveer 6 uur, tijdens de behandeling had ik amper pijn. Uit de bovenarm is ongeveer 2 liter vet weggezogen. De behandeling door Hajo Bruining en zijn team heb ik als zeer prettig ervaren.
Gedurende 5 weken heb ik meerdere keren per week in Hoofddorp bij Marion Groen therapie gehad. Door Hajo en Marion werd ik geweldig gesteund in het genezingsproces. Had ik een probleempje dan werd er door beiden snel op gereageerd.

Op 14 april 2021 volgde deze behandeling aan mijn rechter bovenarm. Weer 2 liter vet werd er weggehaald. De nabehandeling was nu iets pijnlijker maar al met al viel het reuze mee. De littekens genezen naar verwachting. De omvang was 54 cm en nu rechts 30 cm en links 31cm!!!!
Ik ben erg blij deze behandeling te hebben ondergaan. Ik ben met mijn armen weer mobiel en ik hoef me niet meer te schamen voor de gigantische bovenarmen.

So, in the near future, my forearms are also on the line.
