I have had appalling pain in my upper arms for over 40 years and they were getting thicker and thicker over the years.
I did have been to VUMC for examination at the phlebology department twelve years ago because I had frequent wound erosions in both my legs. At phlebology they said I had lipedema but nothing could be done about it. They prescribed elastic stockings to prevent worse.
In October 2020, I visited a new general practitioner for the first time and asked him if he knew of anything that could help with the terrible pain in my arms. I have had various forms of rheumatism for years, so I thought this pain was also related to rheumatism. But this general practitioner said, "I can see it, you have lipoedema."
He said he knew a doctor who might be able to help,Dr. Hajo Bruining.He had recently referred another patient to this doctor.
Hajo Bruining - Lipedema Specialist
On November 4, 2020, I had my first consultation with Hajo Bruining. Hajo also diagnosed me with lipedema. He said that liposuction could remedy the condition, but not in my case because I was taking blood thinners and had heart failure. I felt very disappointed. He referred me to a physiotherapy practice in Hoofddorp with an associated edema therapist and dietitian. I ended up with Marion Groen, who gave me press and edema therapy. This therapy worked very well. I even got visible shoulders again and the pain became more bearable.
I told this above story to the cardiologist with whom I am under treatment and who, in consultation with a pulmonologist, had prescribed me a certain type of blood thinners. The cardiologist felt that a solution had to be found so that liposuction could be performed. The three doctors worked together to come up with the solution. A few days before the liposuction, the blood thinner pills were replaced by injections into the abdomen. Then came the next obstacle namely; in my status was my alleged allergy to lidocaine. During a telephone consultation between the family doctor and Dr. Hajo, it turned out that this entry in my status, was a mistake!

On March 10, 2021, the first liposuction was performed on my left upper arm, followed by skin correction. The treatment took about 6 hours, during which I experienced hardly any pain. Approximately 2 liters Fat were Fat from my upper arm. I found the treatment by Hajo Bruining and his team to be very pleasant.
For 5 weeks, I had therapy with Marion Groen in Hoofddorp several times a week. Hajo and Marion provided me with tremendous support during the healing process. If I had a problem, they both responded quickly.
On April 14, 2021, I had this treatment on my right upper arm. Another 2 liters Fat removed. The aftercare was a little more painful this time, but all in all, it wasn't too bad. The scars are healing as expected. The circumference was 54 cm, and now it's 30 cm on the right and 31 cm on the left!!!!
I am very happy to have undergone this treatment. My arms are mobile again and I no longer have to be ashamed of my enormous upper arms.
So, in the near future, my forearms are also on the line.
